§ 265.101. Method of indexing.

  • The County Clerk shall cause to be prepared one or more books for each town and city in the county for the indexing therein, under the proper town or city so designated, of all instruments now required by law to be recorded in the books of conveyances, and of all instruments now required by law to be recorded in the books of mortgages. Said indexes shall be deposited in the office of land records. They shall be prepared so as to contain the names of the parties to each instrument, the date of recording the same and the liber and page of the record thereof and such other data in connection therewith as the County Clerk shall direct. Said books shall be entitled "Town and City Indexes of Conveyances and Mortgages" respectively, and shall indicate the towns and cities to which they relate. Whenever there shall be filed with said County Clerk a satisfaction of any mortgage which shall have been indexed as herein provided, said Clerk shall, as soon as practicable, enter upon the index of said mortgage the date of the filing of the satisfaction of the same and the liber and page of the record thereof.
