§ 277.701. Definitions.

    Master electrician is any person who performs and/or supervises the installing, erecting, extending, altering, or repairing of electrical wiring, apparatus, fixtures, devices, appliances and equipment utilized or designed for the utilization of electricity for light, heat, cooling, power purposes or for signaling systems.

    2.

    Special electrician is a master electrician who is licensed to perform the work of a master electrician in a particular location (i.e., building or plant structure).

    3.

    Board shall mean the Westchester County Electrical Licensing Board created by this article.

    Journeyman electrician is an electrician who (a) has successfully completed a formal electrical apprenticeship program which has been registered with and approved by the New York State Department of Labor; or (b) has successfully completed a formal electrical apprenticeship program which has been similarly registered and approved by another state of the United States of America; or (c) has successfully completed a formal electrical apprenticeship program which has been registered with and approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training of the United States Department of Labor; or (d) has otherwise demonstrated his or her understanding, proficiency and competence in all facets of the electrical trade, which shall include: (1) a working familiarity with all aspects of the Electrical Code and the ability to apply the code requirements correctly; and (2) an understanding of the basic electrical theory and the trade related math skills which are utilized on the jobsite; and (3) a working knowledge of the tools of the trade and the ability to utilize them properly; and (4) a broad exposure to the various types of electrical installations and has acquired the expertise to perform each of them correctly.

    5.

    The term "electrical inspector" shall mean any person who now or hereafter inspects electrical components, equipment and systems used in buildings and structures to determine the compliance of such electrical components, equipment and systems and the installation of such electrical components, equipment and systems with the applicable provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code promulgated pursuant to Article 18 of the Executive Law.

    6.

    The term "shelving" shall refer to an individual's voluntary decision to place in inactive status, for a period of one year, his or her license to engage in any activity subject to licensure by the board.
