§ 273.151. Duty to report deaths; neglect a misdemeanor.

  • It shall be the duty of any person who may become aware of a death under any of the circumstances set forth in the preceding section to report such death forthwith to the office of the Medical Examiner, or to the District Attorney, or to the Commissioner/Sheriff of Public Safety or a police officer, who shall forthwith notify the Medical Examiner. Any person who shall willfully neglect or refuse to report such death or who without written order from the Medical Examiner shall willfully touch, remove or disturb the body of the dead person, or willfully touch, remove or disturb the clothing, or any article upon or near such body, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
